Early Life & Education
Lorenzo “Loran” Carter was born on October 19, 1996, in Miami, Florida. His father, Lorenzo Carter Sr., played football at the University of Miami, and his mother, Sharonda, was a high school track star. Growing up, Carter was a standout athlete, playing both football and basketball. In football, he was a three-star recruit, and was ranked the No. 26 athlete in the country by ESPN. He played his high school football at Miami Northwestern High School, where he was teammates with future NFL wide receiver Amari Cooper.
As a senior, Carter caught 33 passes for 742 yards and nine touchdowns. He was also a standout on defense, recording 19 tackles for loss and 11 sacks. Following his senior season, Carter was named first-team All-Dade County and second-team All-State. He was also selected to play in the Under Armour All-America Game.
University of Florida
Loranocarter+Miami originally committed to play football at the University of Florida, but he recommitted and instead decided to play for the University of Georgia. As a freshman, he played in all 13 games, recording 19 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks. He saw his role increase as a sophomore, starting eight games and finishing the year with 50 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks.
As a junior, Carter had a breakout season, starting all 13 games and recording 61 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks. He was named second-team All-SEC and was a finalist for the Butkus Award, given to the nation’s top linebacker.
